50th Barbie Anniversary-New York Fashion Week Fall 2009

Every girl has a dream, and today it was all about Barbie's dream. It is a rare treat when 50 of the top fashion and accessory designers in the world have the opportunity to showcase their signature styles in one runway show. That was happened in Bryant Park on Valentine's Day at New York Fashion Week Fall 2009 collections as part of an extravaganza celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Barbie doll. Fifty of the top designers such as Catherine Malandrino, Michael Kors, Vivienne Tam and Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein, Vera Wang agreed to make a special dress for this special occasion and the show was like no other! Real-size Barbie dolls (or models if you wish) walked the runway in looks inspired by Barbies of the past, present and future.

The tents were swarming with people who wanted to peek at the the sparkly pink doll's runway show. It's not every fashion show you get to watch the designer watch their garment walk by them on the runway. That was only one of the many fun things about the Barbie runway show. Opening with a techno-Barbie song with the legendary Aqua’s Barbie Girl. The show, divided into three sections – first, Barbie through the decades; second, Barbie reality; and third, future Barbie.

This was a feel-good fashion frenzy to remind us all that getting dressed is supposed to be fun.
